Break! - Week 50

Woo! Big 50, but 52 is even bigger! There's a couple things that happened over this break and they were all pretty fun! I don't really remember what happened before break, but I don't really think there was anything worthwhile besides getting a visit from a chamber group from Western Illinois University. They were all really cool and their playing style and pieces were all really exciting. We are currently planning a trip for our class to go play with them later next year which is exciting. Anyways... I'll start from the start of break and move forward.

The first thing that happened (waking up at 4am during the first day of break) was the Palatine invitational for Science Olympiad. There were tons of top tier schools there that can even place top 10 at nationals. The results are here on avogadro and I'm proud to say that I even beat out a couple of those schools in my events. In total I got 2 first places and a 4th place. I was really proud considering how many of my build events were sabotaged (it seemed like all varsity builds were in some way). My flight wing was destroyed somehow and fixing it just made it fly worse, IAT (It's About Time) had a weird time trial that we specifically had the right measurements for but it didn't work right, and Scrambler was just cursed. For the other builds, something weird happened with trajectory and bridge was somehow damaged on the trip there. Considering these setbacks (excuses), I'm really proud of my work and hopefully I do better on the next invitational.

The next trip was a Tri-M excursion with the board members from all three schools in our district. It was a wild time trying to get a day that works with a lot of people, especially the club presidents. I think it worked out really well considering that our original plan got shut down. I think that we were more productive than if we followed the original plan! We shared club infrastructure with each other to better everyone's programs and planned a day to do stuff with all chapter members. The long term plan is that we do district wide events more often so we can play to the strengths of each school. Waubonsie with fundraising, Neuqua with events, and Metea with their volunteering. I won't get to see it in my high school career, but I'm glad that I planted the seeds of something hopefully great!
Next up I had a fun cooking trip with the boys. We got a group of four together and we made our own friendsgiving food. We even went to the store together to get all the ingredients that we needed and helped each other with individual dishes. I think that we all did really well, considering we have little cooking experience at all, especially with those foods and we were pretty much just following recipes. It was also pretty cheap, the cost for each individual person went out to be about $11 and they had so many leftover food! I hope that we can do more stuff like that!
Anyways, that's it for this week, two weeks actually. It was really fun to relax this week and not do stuff for a couple days. Watching the world cup was also pretty fun. Black Friday was kind of disappointing this year since you can just order everything online and there's not that big rush to get to the stores anymore. Anyways, now it's time to finish up those UC applications, funnnnnn. Thanks for reading!
