Week 4 (Boys Golf Conference and Time Commitments)

It's been 4 weeks since I've started on this journey and I've received nothing but positive reinforcement, so I thank you all for that! There were a couple interesting events this week that I'm gonna go over. A quick reminder is that if you or someone you know needs help in a subject that I have experience in, don't hesitate to contact me through the form or if you have my contact, then through there directly. Let's start with the big news, winning the DVC boys golf conference.

In the conference, I may not have contributed a score, but it was still wild to go through all of that. Let me start by first explaining how the golf conference works. Leading up to conference, there are school matches where the DVC high schools go 1v1 against each other. The winner gets 2 conference points for winning against each school. Leading up to conference, Waubonsie only won two of the matches, which means that we only had 4 points. On the other hand, our competition Metea, had won all their matches meaning they had 10 points. It wasn't looking good for us as we were entering conference because there were very specific conditions that had to be met in order for us to win. At conference, every school you beat is also worth 2 points. So if you came 2nd, that means you would get 8 points for beating 4 other schools. Waubonsie was in the group of schools that went first, so we got our results relatively quick. We had a really strong score and all we could do was to wait for the other schools to finish. I think a huge factor to us winning was that scoring was also done online, so you could see how other schools were doing as well. So since we went first, it was relatively stress free, but the other schools had to follow us and after seeing the good scores probably got stressed out and blundered. In the end, Waubonsie took 1st place at the conference competition and the competitor Metea, came 4th. That means total points, Waubonsie had 4 points from before conference + 10 points won in conference = 14 points total. Metea had 10 points from before conference + 4 points won in conference = 14 points total. However, we also get points for winning the conference competition, so in the end we overtook Metea with the greatest underdog comeback ever. What's also amazing is that we had 3 amazing golfers tie for first overall, which led to a playoff where they competed against each other.

Throughout the week, I've been trying to balance everything out and I can admit that it's a bit taxing. I'm trying to do many other clubs in addition to doing this, golf, and violin. In addition to the personal project, I'm joining other clubs that may help me overcome my timidness like BPA and Model UN. I will say it's a bit of a relief that golf is over soon because that was a huge time commitment and now I can do other activities without having to stress over time management. I've always heard that Junior year was the hardest year of high school, but this hit me a bit rough. I think part of it comes from going in person after a virtual year of school last year. It really feels like I shouldn't be a Junior right now because I've missed out on so much of what school had to offer the past two years. Maybe joining all the clubs is a way that I'm trying to compensate for that. In addition to clubs, I also got accepted to an online class at Fermilab about physics. I feel like this is super interesting because it goes more in depth with more complex topics about physics than out honors physics class would likely teach. Even though it's another activity that makes my weekend more crammed, I still feel like it's worth attending these meetings just so I can gain more knowledge and be able to grasp more complex topics.

These were the highlights of my week. I know a lot of friends went to the Neuqa Homecoming and I can't wait to hear about how it went from them. I'm very excited for next week because Science Olympiad is finally starting up. I am currently designing a shirt that we can wear to the competitions because I don't think that many people like the science puns and sometimes you have to get a bit creative with your ideas. Maybe I'll leak the idea if this post gets a lot of attention or if people directly ask me privately or in the comments. I'm still relatively new to this and I'm really glad that people are enjoying this and I kind of want to see how far I can make this grow. So far, I've been labeling my posts by weeks, so starting now I'm going to also mention what will be in the post so people that might be interested don't miss out on anything.

Well, thanks for reading this week!
